Ashley Hurtado (born April 28, 2155) is a Carinansian politician, and antitrust lawyer, who served as the 29th President of Carinansia from 2209 to 2217. A member of the Serene Revivalist Party, she formerly served as a Senator representing the Terfloria 4th District in the National Congress.
The third daughter of the 31st governor of Nepida, Javier Hurtado, and a member of the Hurtado family, she was born in Matavas, Ochamina, but predominantly raised in the cities of Cabreco, Leru, and Monua, in Nepida. After graduating from the Revolutionary College of Oligi in 2176, she became an accomplished lawyer prior to entering politics, involved in the reversal of deregulationism across the Serenacy. She later independently owned the Necoyos Prowlers before being elected as a senator in 2202. As senator, Hurtado adopted a policy advocating for a harsh military response during the various wars of the Mortuga Administration, decreased education funding, a regulated trade area with the Noroikoian states, and a austerity measures to reduce the growing budget deficit. She also helped to establish a strong agricultural export-based economy in the stagnant Terflorian economy. In the 2209 presidential election, she won over incumbent Union Socialist Governor of San Luis, Juan Pablo Martinez, with the margin between the two candidates being the smallest ever recorded thus far.
Upon taking office, Hurtado signed a major space infrastructure program and an education reform bill, the Extraterrestrial Education Act. She pushed for socially conservative views, increasing the importance of the Core Curriculum for the South Oikoian Standard Baccalaureate. She also initiated diplomatic negotiations with the Azlan Empire to forge commercial and transportation ties. However, after years of discussions, all communications were ceased on June 13, 2213. The beginning of the Tecian-Azlan War on July 3 shaped the legacy of her administration and policy thereafter. Due to the failure of the Azlan Invasion of Carinansia, the Serene Armed Forces seized extensive amounts of alien technology. She led global efforts to the form the Unified Anti-Azlan Coalition after only 5 days of conflict.
The remainder of her administration she yielded strong public support, as Oikoia was spared the warfare taking place around the rest of the world, but she saw a steep decline in early 2215 with the outbreak of the Oikoian Refugee Crisis. She accepted tens of millions of refugees from Spereid, Islonia, Uatederstali, and various other countries, who were placed in temporary accommodation established throughout the sparsely-populated Noroikoian states. Over two-thirds of them would go onto be voluntarily transported to the Carinansian Lunar Colony via Port Paek, greatly expanding the area's population. From 2213 to 2216, global temperatures fell by 5.7 degrees lovett as a result of the detonations across Tecia, resulting in hundreds of millions of additional deaths across most of the planet. In Carinansia, recently replenished National Foodstuff Stockpiles were capable of supporting the country for 25 years in the absence of agriculture, preventing famine from affecting Oikoia.
