The Left Group, known to historians as the Historical Left, was liberal and democratic parliamentary group in the Diet of Terraum from 1840 to 1848. The party was composed of businessmen and liberal nobles. Along with supporting capitalistic policies, the group also supported universal male suffrage and an end to Plamyadian rule in the Platesan Empire. The party suffered a major split in 1841 when the Far Left Group left after the breaking of a railway strike. After the 1848 Revolution, the group was split again between those who supported a more centrally controlled Platesan Empire and those who supported a looser government via confederation. The factions would go on to create the Party of the Grand Revolution and the Progress Party.
