The Far Left Group, known to historians as the Historical Far Left, was a parliamentary faction of the legislature of the Electorate of Astra, the Diet of Terraum, from 1841 to 1848. The faction consisted of Radical, Socialist, and Anti-monarchist politicians from the Electorate of Astra during the Plamyadian Rule.
Originally a more extreme wing of the Historical Left, the wing separated itself in 1841 after voicing discontent with the Left Group's neglect of the common folk. The party disbanded in 1848, along with the Left Group and Right Group, after their planned outbreak of the 1848 Revolution. Like the Right Group, the Far Left did not manage to organize a succeeding party immediately following the 1848 Revolution until 1860 in the form of the United Socialist Democratic Party
History
The Far Left was originally a group within the Left and mainly consisted of university educated lawyers and doctors as opposed to the wealthy capitalists and nobles that made up the rest of the Left Group. The group began to disassociate itself after the Left's leadership, which was in control of the country, decided to attack Employees that were participating in the 1840 North Terraum steel mill revolt. Afterwards the group, originally a loose collection of representatives, organized and listed "Rights for the Working Man" as one of its main tenets. Further division occured when the group was not invited and not allowed entry into the Left's 1941 convention. The Far Left Group declared independence from the Left Group in the summer of 1841.
The Far Left and Left groups quickly made amends due to the Left loosing its majority in the legislature and both fearing a conservative take over by the Right Group. In late 1841, the Far Left and the Left made the "Anti-Plamyadian League", an alliance born out of their distrust of the Plamyadian rule over the Platesan Empire.
The Far Left managed to introduce and sometimes pass legislature that severely cut down the power of the Astran monarch. In 1845, the Far Left introduced and then passed the Revolutionary Statue, this declaration stated that the Plamyadian conquest of the Platesan Empire was illegal and that subjects of the Empire had all rights bestowed upon them to rise up and depose the Plamyadian Emperor. The Astran Elector was, at first, weary of passing this declaration, but talks soon changed his mind. In 1846, the Terraum Convention came together in secret, the convention consisted of all monarchs and their prime ministers of the empire.
After the 1848 Revolution the groups of the Terraum Assembly agreed to disband in order to give way to new, larger and broader, parties of the democratic Platesan Empire. Though a schism occurred in the party between the socialists and the moderate radicals resulting in a successor not being organized until the 1860 Imperial election. The radicals ended up splitting with one half joining the Progress Party and another joining the Party of the Grand Revolution.
