Following the ''Graf von Geberhard'' class of heavy cruisers which were built in the early 2340s, the Kaiserliche-Marine sought for a new class of heavy cruisers that could compete with the Pantorran Imperium and various alien civilisations that were being encountered throughout the universe. Learning from the results of the [[Battle of Icarus I]], the ''Eisvögel'' began its conception with the idea of a"compact, heavily armoured starship that would be able to easily sneak through enemy defenses through the usage of its cloaking device while being able to survive multiple hits to its hull. The vessel was also to have heavy firepower, which would be equal to a small capital ship. The class was to have some of the most advanced technologies available in the Kaiserreich during the time, and was to house the latest in warp drive technology - the Heinrichsohn ''Adler IV'' warp drive - capable of a maximum of warp 9.8. In 2055, the vessel's design was presented to the'' Kaiserliches Oberkommando der Marine'' which requested the addition of more torpedo tubes in both the forward and aft sections of the vessel. In 2358, the vessel's design was approved and scheduled for construction in 2060 as the ''Eisvögel'' class. | |||

The Eisvögel-class starships were a class of starships operated by the Kaiserliche-Marine, serving as the primary workhorse for the Englean Kaiserreich for the majority of the late 24th Century.
Design
Following the Graf von Geberhard class of heavy cruisers which were built in the early 2340s, the Kaiserliche-Marine sought for a new class of heavy cruisers that could compete with the Pantorran Imperium and various alien civilisations that were being encountered throughout the universe. Learning from the results of the Battle of Icarus I, the Eisvögel began its conception with the idea of a"compact, heavily armoured starship that would be able to easily sneak through enemy defenses through the usage of its cloaking device while being able to survive multiple hits to its hull. The vessel was also to have heavy firepower, which would be equal to a small capital ship. The class was to have some of the most advanced technologies available in the Kaiserreich during the time, and was to house the latest in warp drive technology - the Heinrichsohn Adler IV warp drive - capable of a maximum of warp 9.8. In 2055, the vessel's design was presented to the Kaiserliches Oberkommando der Marine which requested the addition of more torpedo tubes in both the forward and aft sections of the vessel. In 2358, the vessel's design was approved and scheduled for construction in 2060 as the Eisvögel class.
