The Sultan popularity among the populace had been in decline as his policy in the last decade had been accused of perverting Arab nationalistic ideals, particularly due to the accusation that the Sultan was "selling out" the country to foreign, imperial powers. Both Sultan Omar Prime Minister Mustafa Ahmed Jamal fled the city soon after the takeover. Prime Minister Mustafa was later found on the outskirts of the city in a car with Sultan Loyalists and was subsequently killed in the following skirmish. The whereabouts of Sultan Omar are still unknown, however he is believed to have fled the country entirely. General Ameer installed his brother, Abdul Rahem Omar, as president of the new republic beginning the Republican Socialist Party rule of Jabal Qassuon. | ||
