Concept of the Divine

Abakhulu religion is based on the existence of two deities, Khenos and Etuna. Khenos is the god of the Universe, and Etuna is the goddess of Life and Souls. They are believed to be the perfection of the human form, thus being relatable to their followers, but being superior to them due to their perfection. In addition, Abaks believe that Khenos has always existed, with Etuna coming from his breast at a definitive time. This separation myth reinforces the idea of a patriarchal society, however the Incwadi explicitly states that men are to care for the women in their lives.

Abakhulu teaches that the universe was created by Khenos over a period of a thousand years. Upon the completion of the universe, Etuna took over and created the intricate details inside of all planets, including creating human life on Themis. The purpose for their followers are to know them and imitate them. They are viewed as personal gods, and respond when called upon by any individual.
