The 40th annual edition of the Esquarivision Song Contest was held in Desislav, after their second-place result in "Velikite muzhe sa podpraveni v pozhar" (Great men are forged in fire), performed by Vyara Tzankova. Despite Lecistan's victory, they could not host the contest due to financial reasons, so Katranjiev agreed to host.
Format
Location
After the announcement of Lecistan not hosting, KTV held the host bid. Two candidates ran: Desislav and Krasimir.
In Desislav, the largest and most cosmopolitan city in the entire country, the Desislav Host Committee chose the Kralskata teatur (Royal Theater) as the venue, which had 1,850 seats, and had ample room for the needs of the performers. Krasimir's bid was at the Kralsakata Arena (Royal Arena) with room for 18,000 people, and significant space for the needs of the performers.
On March 2, Desislav won overwhelmingly, making Desislav the host.
Hosts
Footballer Andrei Borisov was selected by KTV to serve as presenter on April 1st, alongside former Liberationist-era singer Eliana Dobrev, who was known for making propaganda songs during the 26th of July Movement, which had garnered some controversy due to her historic political affiliations.
