The Province of Nieuw Hoop, officially known as the Province of the Greater Nieuw Hoop Dependencies, is a Rensselaer province located in central Rensselaerswijck. It is bordered by the province of Kievits Hoek to the east and the province of Kanatsiohareke to the west. The province is divided in half by the strait of Rensselaerswjick, dividing the Ansulation Ocean from the Bay of Rensselaerswjick. Nieuw Hoop is the sixth and final province to be admitted into the Federal Republic, being admitted as a full province on January 1st, 1900. Previously, the territory was divided between the two provinces it now shares land borders with, Kievits Hoek and Kanatsiohareke.
The province has the highest population, GDP per capita, and per capita income in the country. With its capital of Nieuw Hoop (in which both share the same name), the province of Nieuw Hoop is sometimes referred to as PNH (Provincie van Nieuw Hoop) while Nieuw Hoop is referred simply as NH. The province is regarded as the administrative capital of the country, as well as one of the wealthiest. As such, it has gained a reputation for being "out of touch" with the rest of Rensselaerswijck.
A referendum held in the 1894 General Election regarding the fate of the city of Nieuw Hoop and the surrounding areas reached a near-landslide win for a newly proposed province. Borders were finalized by the 1898 General Election, and by 1899 a transition period had been set in effect. The government was officially declared and made official at the turn of the century, on the 1st of January 1900. The Provinicial-Governor would not be officially sworn in until the 1st of February, 1900.
The provinces of Nieuw Hoop, Kievits Hoek, and Wilhelmnus all form the "urban-belt" of the country, consisting of upwards of 70% of the population and having all of the top ten biggest cities in the country. It is within this urban-belt that the province experiences rapid economic growth. The province's economic boom is expected by analysts to peak in the coming decades, as many people seek new areas of opportunity in neighboring provinces such as Kievits Hoek.
There are 108 seats in the province's Provincial Assembly, controlled by a Mercantile Interest and Republican Unity coalition. The layout coincidentally mirrors the layout of the federal Parliament. With a center coalition, the province's government has broadly followed the steps of the Federal government, allowing the Federal government considerable leeway in issuing reforms regarding the province.
