The House of Kaligoúlas is an Imperial Household hailing from Belisaria and is the current ruling household of the Tarsan Empire. The family was founded in 1734 when the wealthy shipping magnate Argyile Kaligoúlas was ennobled by Romulus VII for his role in the expansion and growth of the city of Neapolis.

With their new status as Dukes, the family began to utilize their vast wealth to quickly gain favor with the Emperor and many high ranking noble families. A notable rivalry developed between the House of Anacomas and House of Kaligoúlas, both respected business families. Though shrewd, the family was considered upstart commoners by many of the ancient Tarsan and Lihnidosi houses that made up the court of the Hellenic Empire at the time.

The family was hampered throughout the 19th Century by their rivals in court, who ascended the throne under Hadrian I in 1832 and effectively hampered the Kaligoúlas aims at court. The family officially left the Council of Nine in 1836 and returned to Neapolis. The family was mostly unaffected by the Hadriatic Reforms of 1866 and the restructuring of the upper class that followed due to their great wealth and wealthy holdings.

With the abdication of Eudora I in 1904 and the ascendance of House Keld, Maximos Kaligoúlas took advantage of the discontent among the nobility with the Gentry roots of the ruling Kelds and launched the August Uprising in late 1904. Romulus VIII was killed in an earlier raid by Kaligoúlas supporters in June of 1905. His younger brother, Romulus IX, was forced to abdicate during the uprising in 1905. With the support of the majority of the Lords, Maximos declared himself Maximos I the Sword.

The House of Kaligoúlas has ruled Tarsas since 1905 and has since become a respected house in Belisaria. They remain one of the wealthiest Tarsan houses due to their vast shipping empire and various other transport holdings throughout the world. The current head of the house is Romulus X, who is also the current Autokrator.
