The Artemis-class multi-role stealth frigates are a class of 'light frigates' designed by International Maritime Group (IMG) for service with the Federation Navy and for export purposes. The ship in service with the Federation Navy operates as a combined anti-submarine and anti-air patrol vessel, replacing the duties held by the larger Apollo-class Frigate.
Design
The design of the ship is built around a necessity for radar cross section reduction measures to be included, which is noticeable with inclined hull sides and most noticeably with hull covering the central open-air deck that houses the ship's anti-surface and anti-submarine batteries. The class was originally designed to act as a dedicated anti-submarine warship, and as such includes a sonar house under it's main hull,
The class utilises the HERAKLION multifunction phased array radar, seen on the Agni-class frigate of the Commonwealth Navy. The radar possesses the ability to track up to 500 targets is able to make the ship into a potent area defence vessel. Featured on the ship in the anti-submarine role are the FN/SQS-23 and FN/SQR-41 sonar arrays which allow it to, in conjunction with it's carried Cassini helicopter, conduct large-area anti-submarine warfare duties which has been a long-standing concern for the Federation in the Kayamuca and Makrian oceans.
The ship's 32-cell vertical launch system allows it to carry both the Archer Missile and Peltast Missile families, with the latter allowing the ship to deploy a torpedo directly over a dedicated submarine. In addiction to the Peltast, the ship also carries two triple launchers for the Type_14A_Helix_Lightweight_Torpedo which can also be utilised defensively as an interceptor. On the deck of the ship is a 76mm deck gun which functions as both a smart-gun for the deployment of precision munitions and as a CIWS emplacement, with tracking capabilities to destroy incoming missiles. A 21-shot RAM launcher mounted on the hangar of the ship also assists in the CIWS arena. Two Guardian-4 Remote Weapon Platform Systems (RWPS) are also equipped on the ship, which provide a 30mm autocannon for self-defense purposes against small craft and two Veruta Missile quad launchers, which allow the platforms to engage surface or air threats in the local area.
While the class typically operates with only one Cassini helicopter aboard, it is capable of housing two in temporary cramped conditions or for two smaller designs permanently in foreign service.
