The Principality of Debrecen (Ruvelkan: Debrecen Fejedelemség; Ruvelkan Script: Úìǔṷìūìṵ Ûìḥìúìłìṳḻïų) was a Ruvelkan principality that existed between the early 1300s until its official dissolution in 1865. It served as a vassal state of the Arkoennite Empire until it gained its independence in the 1700s, later going on to become a founding body of the first unified Ruvelkan nation-state in the Ruvelkan Imperium.
The state was founded under the rule of Tímea Prohászka, then the Princess Royal of the Prohászka Dynasty, after several years of consolidating the family’s holdings throughout the Kurilla mountains. Under her leadership, the Principality went on to conquer the nearby Hajdú Confederation and Joseni Republic. Despite its growing influence, however, the Principality ultimately remained ruled by Arkoenn for most of its history until the Arkoennite Empire’s dissolution in 1701.
Surrounded by potential enemies, the Principality was quick to advocate alliances with its fellow Ruvelkans and was key in developing the nominal Ruvelkan Confederation. Princess Royal Kíra Prohászka, who became ruler of the Principality in 1730, pushed for Ruvelkan unification that culminated in the brief conflict known as the Confederation Dispute. Debrecen’s victory directly resulted in the creation of the Ruvelkan Imperium with Kíra serving as the Imperium’s first queen and the Principality serving as one of its most important constituent states.
The Principality was officially dissolved in the aftermath of the Red War during the formation of the Ruvelkan Socialist Republic. Its territory would then become the modern-day Debrecen District.
