The Stridsvagn 72 is a heavy tank developed by Landrut-Bergmann in the the late 1930s for the Acrean Armed Forces. Even before the introduction of the Strv 81 in 1937, Armoured Force had recognised the substantial cost of producing the new vehicle, and considered its production costs to be unsuitable to be built in numbers large enough for it to serve as the Army's primary battle tank. With the conclusion of the Siduri War and the Svinian and Azurlav invasion of Shalum, there was considered to be a pressing need for a new vehicle design to replace the now decade-old Strv 71 in Acrean service.
