Angélica capitalized on contacts she had made during her teenage years participating in various talent shows and theater groups to begin her musical career. She was cast as the female lead in a 2013 rock musical Heavy Metal and received overwhelming positive reviews on her performance.
Though Apex Recording holds the rights to that piece, and the songs she preformed, they were uninterested in signing her to allow her to continue her solo career. In late 2013, she was signed with Swish Recordings, and released her first album in 2014, entitled Defining Me, which is a compilation of songs she'd preformed during Heavy Metal (With Swish purchasing the rights from Centennial) as well as several pieces of her own. The album was generally successful, reaching number 17 on the Cartelera charts.
