Occupation

The Etrurian occupation of Montecara lasted from xxxx to 1946

  • Prelude: Montecara has been in a state of slow-burning civil discord since the Gaullican occupation ended in 1935. Conservative, pro-church, pro-Gaullican faction versus the liberals who were opposed to all of those things.
  • Etruria stepping in to "bring peace" to the conflict by picking up where the gaullicans left off but with the added appeal that they are basically the same ethnic group
  • anschluss with some street violence and a more immediate resistance movement
  • rig up a referendum after the fact to legitimize it
  • End of occupation: Montecara invaded by the CN before they liberate Emessa and invade southern Etruria, a nasty but relatively short affair
  • Aftermath: the church was given the reins of the social welfare state such as it was. State gets it back by promising a real modern welfare state instead of the shitty schools and hospitals the church provided
