At the age of 18, Antón enrolled in the [[Ceannlaidir Martial Academy]] located in [[Ira]], and received a commission as a ''Cadete do Exército'', or Army Cadet. He completed his studies in 1982, and was awarded a commission as a ''Tenente'', or Second Lieutenant. He attended Aisling Airborne Training School and was assigned as a platoon leader with the [[5th Imperial Dragón Brigade]], and later became a company commander with the same unit. During the operation, several units, including Antón's was cut off and encircled by the Notreceauen forces. During the 90-hour battle before the force was relieved, Antón repeatedly exposed himself to enemy fire while personally leading his men in three separate counterattacks. Following this, Antón was successful in organizing his men and holding open a landing zone allowing for the evacuation of wounded personnel, and later initiating {{wpl||parley}} with the enemy forces to allow medical evacuation helicopters to remove several severally wounded personnel.  During this action, Antón was wounded no less than 5 times by enemy fire.
