The Nationalwehr is the unified armed forces of Bakyern. The Nationalwehr is tasked with the responsibility of protecting Bakyern from any external threats and protecting the country from attack. Federal States are allowed their own armed forces, called the Territorialheer. The Nationalwehr follow policies from the Executive Department of War (EDoW). The Nationalwehr has mainly played out a defensive role, with a defensive strategy being used since the early 2000's.

Origin

The Nationalwehr was created in 1993 following the end of the Bak Political Crisis. With Bakyern no longer in internal conflict, the Reichsheer was disbanded and reformed into the Nationalwehr, with all assets and personnel being passed onto the Nationalwehr. During the Transition to Democracy in Bakyern years, 1.3 million personnel were laid off due to Bakyern's politics no longer being focused towards conflict and war. The Nationalwehr and Territorialheer have been in a battle of jurisdiction over who is responsible for defending the states, but after a court ruling in 1998, the majority of jurisdiction in the states has been transferred to the Territorialheer.
