The Areiva Arpón (English: Harpoon) is a mediuem range anti-aircraft missile produced by Areiva of Temuair. It is intended to be used as part of an distributed and networked air-defense system, or as part of a vessels air defense system. The Arpón missile system is designed to provide cover for maneuvering forces, and protects high-value assets and mass population centers. The missile is able to engage hostile aircraft, UAV drones and cruise missiles. It is utilized by several land based mobile and static emplacements, and also aboard the Imperial Navy's Pravat-class corvette.

History and development

The Areiva Arpón missile was designed to fill the medium to long range interception role for the Imperial military. From its onset the program called for a low cost missile designed to enrage enemy aircraft, UAV's and cruise missiles, and be able to intercept these targets at 100 km or further.

Testing began in 1990 and a successful ground based launch was carried out utilizing a decommissioned MIM-23 Hawk missile launcher in 1995. By 1998, testing was completed and the missile was ready for production.

Operational History

Variants

All of the follow are part of the Arpón missile system Used in conjunction with the Graymayre-T345 three dimensional X-band radar system, with the missiles active seeking allowing it to seek its target autonomously in terminal phase. Radar detection range is 150 km with the capability to track and enrage 72 independent targets. The Graymayre-T345 requires a crew of two and can be set up in less than 15 minutes. In 2012, a new system by Nuadhaich equipped with a laser rangefinder and a TV-camera, as well as an upgraded thermographic camera was delivered and allows for the missiles to be fired passively.
