The Lumenic Legion 1995 Common Designation System is a system of designations for weapons and equipment in service with the Lumenic Legion designed to standardize the naming and designation conventions used by the Lumenic Army, Lumenic Armada and Lumenic Air Force. This designation nation system did not expend to individual weapons such as firearms, nor to many weapons integrated into vehicles, such as automatic cannons or machine guns.
Weapons designations
Explanation
The system is deigned to streamline and standardize the designations of weapons system in use by the armed forces of Luminerra to reduce confusion and ease logistical concerns for combined arms operations. The system utilizes a three letter designation system followed by a dash and ending with the last two digits of the year the weapon system was accepted into service.
The sequence utilized for determining with letter prefixes are used is as follows
- The environment from which the weapon is launched
- The primary mission of the weapon
- The type of weapon
This will be followed by the last two digits of the year the weapon was accepted. In the case of free-fall bombs, the designation will be the same as above, but with the explosive weight of the device following the dash, followed by a slash and the last two digits of the acceptance year.
If there have been modifications to the weapons, such as improvements to the initial design, these will be denoted with the letter A progressing through Z, and located at the end of the designation.
Code
Letter | Launch environment | Detailed description |
---|---|---|
A | Air | Air-launched from manned or unmanned aircraft, such as a fighter-bomber, helicopter, or drone. |
B | Multiple | Capable of being deployed from more than one environment |
F | Infantry | Also known as man portable, carried and deployed by an individual |
M | Mobile | Equipment which is mounted to a towable or otherwise movable platform |
N | Vessel | Launched from a surface vessel such as a warship. |
S | Subsurface | Launched from a submarine or other underwater device |
T | Ground | Launched from a ground vehicle or movable platform. |
Letter | Mission | Detailed description |
---|---|---|
A | Attack | Used for attacks against land based or surface targets/ |

Equipment designations
As with the above, the 1995 Common Designation System sought to bring naming designations for military equipment, such as radar sets and radio units, into line between the three major branches of the Lumenic Legion.
Explanation
Under the 1995 Common Designation System, complete equipment sets or systems are designated with a single or a sequence of letters and digits prefixed, followed by a forward slash (/), then three letters, a hyphen (-), a number, and (occasionally) some optional letters. The three letters tell where the equipment is used, what it does and its purpose.
While most model number designations depict the last two digits of the year the device was accepted into service, some equipment, such as the CB/TRS-1 phased array radar do not conform to this configuration.
If there have been upgrades or advancement to the system, it will be denoted by a numeric code, beginning with A and ending with Z, affixed to the end of the designation.
