The Aozaki Sisters are a Gylian music duo, formed in 1999 in Tavis. Their musical style is electronic rock.
History
Sisters Tōko Aozaki (Miranian: 橙子 蒼崎; b. 1979) and Aoko Aozaki (Miranian: 青子 蒼崎; b. 1980) were born in a Miranian family in Tavis, and began playing music at an early age. They played in several bands in college, and began their duo project in 1999.
During the 2000s, they steadily achieved regional success in southern Gylias, and also built up a following abroad through Proton distribution.
One of their Cacertian shows, at Anzio University on 5 February 2011, inspired Triple Threat to form. The two bands have formed a close association, with the sisters' Lazycat label handling Triple Threat's distribution in Gylias.
Musical style
The Aozaki Sisters' style is primarily electronic rock and dance-rock. Their main influences are ZZ Top's Afterburner and JAMC's Automatic. Their music features a similar combination of drum machines and loops, synth bass, and elaborate keyboard work with rock guitar. At various points, they have incorporated elements of funk, heavy metal, power pop, new wave, big beat, and hi-NRG.
Other cited influences include The Beaties, The Watts, Prince, Asuka and the Mighty Invincibles, Van Halen, The Cars, The Ramones, and The Rezillos.
Tōko is mainly the lead guitarist and Aoko mainly the keyboardist. Both sisters sing. Their lyrics and titles show a streak of surreal and silly humour. Their albums are usually given one-word titles based on their covers.
They are known for their distinctive outfits and their live shows. Their concert equipment includes a laptop, two keyboards, a sampler, a loop pedal, and a drum machine. Tōko usually plays while seated, while Aoko has the more energetic stage presence.
