The SMD-19 Amjad (Arabic: امجاد, Eng: Glory) is a SACLOS anti-tank guided missile developed by Riysa, designed to defeat armored vehicles, reinforced hardpoints, and low-speed aircraft such as UAVs and helicopters.
Development
Description
The SMD-19 system consists of a firing post and the actual missile, as well as an optional remote control system. The guidance system utilized is laser beam-riding, boasting heavy resistance to jamming or spoofing.
The missile is one of heaviest and costly MANPATGMs ever deployed - due to its cost and weight, its designed to supplement anti-tank systems currently in service, such as the SMD-12 and SMD-18. This is due to the use of a heavy metal liner, as well as extra propellant for increased range. Compared to typical shaped charges, the warhead boasts improved penetration, up to around 30%. The total is 1500mm RHAe penetration after ERA, more than capable of frontally penetrating most tanks currently in service. The SMD-19 system can fire SMD-12 missiles in addition to its own one.
The SMD-19 can be mounted in pairs under attack helicopter or aircraft wings, and can be roof-mounted on Riysian vehicles. It is also capable of being remotely controlled, either wireless or wired, at up to 400 meters wirelessly or 150 meters with a wired connection, although the SMD-19-2 launcher lacks this capability.
Variants
- SMD-19-1 - Main production variant.
- SMD-19A1 - Tandem-charge warhead.
- SMD-19B1 - Thermobaric warhead.
- SMD-19-2 - Export version without provisions for remote control, also found in Riysian military reserves.
- SMD-19A2 - Tandem-charge warhead.
- SMD-19B2 - Thermobaric warhead.
