The Jerk War is an ongoing military conflict between Razaria and Zesmynia which began in 2020. It has mostly taken place on the relatively narrow Razaro-Zesmynian border in the form of large-scale ground warfare with unrestrained combined arms operations, with some naval engagements taking place in the Rimmory Sea, aerial operations over the combatant nations' rear, and long-range ballistic missile strikes.

Following the 2019 Zesmynian crisis, a coalition of forces led by prime minister Daray Chovaban and self-proclaimed Imperial Protector Nikolai Zemljišnik, which assembled a bizarre mixture of Suxuaists, technocratic reformists, business magnates and nobles took power in Zesmynia, overseeing its recovery from the crisis's devastating digital infrastructure incapacitation. However, the controversial election of the young and mentally disabled Kalina of Desislav as Empress, combined with major purges of Zesmynian nobility, led to widespread opposition to the Zemljišnik-Chovaban alliance not just internally but internationally. A coalition of West Borean nations demanded that imperial elections be re-held and the detainment of various opponents of the new government be reversed, spearheaded by Razaria, however these attempts were rebuked by the Zemljišnik government. The forces represented by Zemljišnik were considered to be particularly dangerous by Razaria due to their ideological and geostrategic hostility towards Čiragrad. The Razarian government also wished to use the opportunity of an illegitimate government with little sympathizers to weaken Zesmynia and bolster its own prestige; it had an increasing confidence in its capability to do so following its steady ascension in the past few decades.

With unfruitful negotiations, Razaria issued an ultimatum on April 6, 2020, demanding not only new imperial elections but also the resignation of Zemljišnik from his Imperial Protector post, and threatened 'severe consequences' should it not be complied with. Both countries had their militaries on full alert by this period and the border was closed on April 17. The international community participated little in the escalation but many nations did voice support for both sides. On May 1, the Razarian National Armed Forces launched a massive combined arms assault known as Operation Javor Branković, beginning an invasion of Zesmynia. Although rapid gains were made initially by Razaria, Zesmynia mustered a much larger force to retaliate, and cancelled the momentum of the RNAF offensive by mid-May, stalling them at several cities in northern Zesmynia. Intense fighting did not resume until mid-June close to the anniversary of Mstis's ascension; a Zesmynian counteroffensive pushed back the Razarians on multiple fronts and some Zesmynian troops entered Razaria itself. In July, the incursion into Razaria was defeated and Razarian forces made another number of gains.

On August 10, a Zesmynian submarine fired missiles onto Razarian naval installations causing huge losses including 2 frigates and 1 submarine destroyed; in retaliation Razaria destroyed most of Zesmynia's international airports and a large number of military airfields with ballistic missiles from August 19 to 28, and also attacked a submarine pen. Zesmynian drones bombed Sovanović on August 30 causing hundreds of civilian deaths. Air operations became increasingly intense and brutal, and from September 1 to 22 2,300 civilians in both contries died as a result of bombings and air raids. The ground theater had little progress however and fighting was still as stalled as before. At international behest, both sides agreed to refrain from aerial and missile operations on targets more than 280 kilometers from the front and basing assets beyond this perimeter, alongside other de-escalation measures at a resolution in Semprihevosk, Luziyca. Cyberattacks however had remained intense since July and downage of major websites became routine by September.

Amounting opposition to Zemljišnik caused a number of Zesmynian officers and nobles to defect on October 5 and form a 'righteous army' siding with the Razarians. Razaria bypassed the Semprihevosk provisions in many areas by putting deployment of heavy weapons under these rebels' umbrella, and on October 23 launched a large-scale offensive. Zesmynian forces rapidly lost ground and in November the Razarians were closing in on the Zasem river. Zemljišnik's government fled Katvan for the city of Vitograd on November 10. By December, urban fighting was raging in Katvan and several other metropoles on the river.
