AleziRadio Festival of Songs 1971 is the fourteenth edition of the annual AleziRadio Festival of Songs. It was held on 16th of May 1971, which was organized by Radio Pyalivostok - Dayain Saari (Daya Island) which means that this is the first time that ARFOS was held in a territory instead of a region, and the first time that the competition was held by a subsidiary of a regional radio station (SUB-RRS). Which is a status given to radio stations of the territories of North Alezia that was put under their dependent radio station (in this case it's Radio Pyalivostok).

The competition was held in the Makalvan Theatre of Aaren. Aaren is the capital of Daya Island and is a special autonomous city. With the population of 15,000 as of 1971, Aaren was given the title as the smallest city to ever host AleziRadio Festival of Songs. Makalvan Theatre can host 1,000 people in it's single room, making it also the smallest ARFOS venue ever recorded in its history. Due to its geographical location, Aaren is the Northernmost city to host the competition.

This edition, Harzanov Kalicheev once again represented Pyalivostok after doing so winning in 1967 and participating again the year after. Most notably, both Dnerash Makol (representing Tel Hadiv in 1964 and 1966) and Ika Naavalainen (representing Pyalivostok in 1964) who both got involved in a tiebreaking round in 1964 returned to the competition at the same time. Even more notably, Ika Naavalainen represented her native Daya Island this time rather than her previous region of Pyalivostok. This also marks the first time that a singer returned to AleziRadio Festival of Songs representing another region.

Another new occasion to the AleziRadio Festival of Songs is that Edita Rosen represented Daya Island in one of its entries. It would've been a normal occasion if Edita didn't presented the competition as well. This means that it is also the first time that the presenter of that year's AleziRadio Festival of Songs also participated as a contestant.

Incidents

Aaren's Capability of Hosting

The competition was met with protest from Pyalivostok and Zafizamarrah about Daya Island hosting the competition. Both regions protested that Daya Island not having the capacity to host, and that the hosting job should've been given to the bigger Pyalivostok instead. The mayor of Aaren responded by completing the infrastructure required for the competition in March 1971. Which give Daya Island the right to keep the competition. The mayor commented that "The Bigwigs should've been silent the whole time while we work our way up.".

Condition of Streets of Aaren

A week before the competition, due to unknown reasons (it was speculated that it's due to either someone sabotaging the competition by applying explosives to the road or due to the unusually heavy load that the road had to support), the road that connects the place where the contestants and crew stayed for the competition week (Lovinskiy Homestay, now Lovinskiy Hotel Aaren) and Makalvan Theatre broke down to the point that it's unpassable.

Due to there being only one road that was able to connect the two buildings at the time, the town administration of Aaren quickly tried to fix the road, while escorting the crew to the place using anything that was available at the time (mostly wood). Due to the road as well the rehearsals for the competition had to be done in the Lovinskiy Homestay's backyard. Fortunately, the road was fixed a day before the competition which means that the competition can be reached normally.

The incident was considered as an embarrasment for the people of Aaren, who protested the incident to the city administration saying that they should focus their money to fixing essential things, because they "can't rely on Pyalivostok for every single thing imaginable."

Tiedän Aarenin kaupungin

One of the entries for Daya Island which was the one that was sung by Ika Naavalainen was called "Tiedän Aarenin kaupungin" which translates to "the City of Aaren that I know". It was found that the song's lyrics contained protests against the City Administration of Aaren where Ika protested about the conditions of Aaren that was (at the time) considered terrible, yet they still insisted on hosting vanity projects like ARFOS. Ika herself confirmed that her lyrics contains protests, saying that she "miss the old Aaren that was honest."

The City Administration of Aaren protested saying that Ika's song is "political" and asked her to change it or they'll force AleziRadio to disqualify her. Ika refused saying that she's "going to use her freedom of speech even if she's going to be arrested for it". The City Administration tried to protest directly to Aji Iliya, however Aji responded by allowing Ika to keep her song saying that he needed to "check out how the people of Aaren thinks about their local leadership".

A week after the competition, the city administration of Aaren apologized for all the wrongdoings that they've done but didn't receive any further punishments afterwards. The city only seriously apologized and fixed the town after the fall of the Iliya Dynasty.
