The death of Bjarn II's father, Eirik, sent the young king into a downwards spiral. Early in his childhood, Bjarn II would develop issues related to trust, abandonment and anxiety. By the time Bjarn II was old enough to rule his mother had passed away as well, causing his anxiety to worsen. If it weren't for the nobles that had been gifted with positions of power by his father, Bjarn II likely would've succumbed to the pressure. However, the Stonish nobility began to involve themselves in the affairs of Flatstones royal family, or what was left of it at least. Old friends of Eirik turned into advisors of Bjarn II until the king was deemed old enough to rule on his own. In 1302, Erik turned 17 and succeeded to the throne, replacing the group of nobles that had collectively assumed leadership of the nation.
