Princess Catalina, Duchess of Gancia (née Princess Katharina Maria of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt; born 30 March 1980) is a German-born Spanish noblewoman. Her husband is Prince Nicolás, Duke of Gancia, who is currently head of the House of Astugón, and the claimant-in-exile to the throne of Escandria. Escandrian royalists refer to her as Queen Catalina.
Early life
Princess Katharina Maria of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt was born on 30 March 1980 in Munich, Germany. Her father, Prince Berthold of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt, was a minor German prince, and her mother, Annelene Steinhauer, was a nurse. Princess Catalina has two siblings; Christian and Wilhelm.
Marriage and children
In 2003, Princess Catalina met Prince Nicolás Astugón in Barcelona. Princess Katharina had been in Spain on a study exchange, at the same university as Prince Nicolás. After a short period of dating, the couple got engaged on Christmas Day 2003, and were married at Almudena Cathedral on 28 June 2004. Katharina adopted the Spanish cognate of her name, Catalina.
