Lethric is the extinct language spoken in Letara in the High Middle Ages. It is a dialect of the Paludal branch of River Telseric and was one of the main languages of commerce in east Telseris. Its vocabulary includes some Latin loanwords.
Lethric is exceptionally well-preserved, surviving in numerous legal and religious documents. Despite the coexistence of the language with Latin, religious and secular authorities favoured the use of Lethric, in part to distance themselves from the collapsed Telseric Empire and its successor states. An extensive vernacular literature also exists in the language, including the satirical epic Wulfesaga which narrates the adventures of the northern warlord Ariwulf and his death at the hands of the Letarans.
