Ittore Apys was born on May 20th, 1786, at the family home in Yons, Greater Athema. He grew up as the third of five children, with two brothers and two sisters. His father was a businessman in Yons working as a middleman, coordinating the movement of textiles, food, dry goods and clothing out to smaller towns for distribution and also operated several warehouses in the city. His father being self-taught and not having a formal eduacation, sent Ittore to an Athemian school at the age of six.
