The University of Talon (French: Université de Talon), sometimes known as the Académie, is a public research university located in Talon, Linaque, Ainin. Established by royal charter in 1315 by King Charles IV of Bonséjours, it is the oldest chartered university in Ainin and one of the oldest in Esquarium.
The university's most well-known campus is located at the southern extremity of Downtown Talon, in an area known as the Latin Quarter. The campus is centered upon the university's historic building, the Château de Saltèrne, and spans an area of 3.5 square kilometres. The campus is home to the university's administrative offices, the Schools of Medicine, Law, Economic Science and Journalism, and flagship library. Other programs, including the expansive School of Letters, moved to a larger exurban campus in Doval in 1977 due to space constraints downtown. The school boasts 54,100 students and 8,633 academic staff, among which feature renowned scholars in the fields of science, economics, art and the humanities.
The university is widely considered the most prestigious institution of higher education in Ainin, consistently placing first or near first in virtually all national rankings, most notably the SURA rankings. It is also renowned internationally and has a diverse student body that hails from all around the world. It is a member of the Group of 18, an advocacy group consisting of Ainin's top 18 research universities. It has a well-publicised and historic rivalry with the University of Beaurepaire.
