Hegyhát matriarchy is the dominant social system that originated from the Hegyhát people that has been dominant in the Imperial South since the Proto-Imperial Era. Hegyhát matriarchy is practiced all throughout the entirity of the Imperial South and often coterminus as a political system. Since the time of the Empire of Hegyhát, Hegyhát matriarchy has been used to define the political and social climate down to the family unit within the Imperial South. The Hegyhát people still practice Hegyhát matriarchy, alongside the Székely people and Hajmaskar people in a social setting and is critical to understanding the Canidology of the Imperial South. Historically, Hegyhát matriarchy typically manifested through the domination of females over males in social privileges, moral authority and positions of political power. Since the Unification Era, Hegyhát matriarchy is still manifested through the use of this matriarchy through positions of political power and social privileges. Hegyhát matriarchy is matrilineal, meaning property and titles are only inherited by female lineage. This still applies within modern day, as many Hegyhát noble houses consider males to be consorts and not entitled to control of property.

Hegyhát matriarchy during the Proto-Imperial Era manifested primarily through social, legal and political means.
