A group of pickups transporting terrorists arrived at both the north and south extremities of the city at dusk and some were dispatched to surround it in case of escape. The terrorists slaughtered,tortured men, kidnapped women and threw children in the Oued Khalut, east of the city. Out of the 2 072 residents of the town, only 28 survived, mostly by escaping through the forest in the south-west.
