Tamar Lilnavais from Aramna won the festival with the song "Antessilos". Her victory gave Aramna its' fourth victory after previously doing so in 1973, 1981, and 1990. Basna and Mosin-Nagan concluded the top three, with Basna earning it's seventh second place position, and Mosin-Nagan earning it's fifth third place position. It is also the first time since the introduction of the online voting that the winner didn't gather enough points to break the previous highest scoring winner record. The victory itself was already expected due to it being a record-breaking victory back when the song competed for the Aramnan regional final.

Pyalivostok was granted the hosting rights immediately after the 2005 festival was won by Pyalivostokian women trio "The Narianovas" who sung "Поезд № 39". After the victory was announced, the regional government and PyaliRadio opened submissions for cities who were interested on hosting the festival. It was then announced later that Pyalivostokgrad, Badnavi, Yovonyyk, and Talyaga were interested on hosting the festival. The bidding process brought Pyalivostokgrad to the hosting rights.

The 2006 festival is also the first ARFOS ever in its history to introduce a slogan: Гора, Река, Небо, Песня (''Gora, Reka, Nebo, Pesnya'' / Mountain, River, Sky, Song). The slogan ends up also being the first ARFOS common song title, where everyone sung the song together on stage standing as accordingly to their "regional" star in the constellation.

The night of the festival concluded with Zafizamarrah earning its' worst result ever once again after the dissapointment of last year's festival. The festival ended with Zafizamarrah earning 11th place and 18th place. The poor result were also met poorly by the Zafizamarranian public which once again sent angry letters to Radio Zafizamarrah. Due to the backlash from previous edition, the viewing of the festival this year was the lowest in percentage in Zafizamarrah ever since the region participated.
The backlash caused rumours circulating that Zafizamarrah would withdraw from the festival next year in order to "recover from the embarrassment". However, this was proven false. However, the backlash did create discussion in Zafizamarrah suggesting that the public tastes in music has changed so much that Zafizamarrah needs to "catch up".

Winning song"Antessilos" by Tamar Lilnavais

AleziRadio Festival of Songs 2006 is the fourty-ninth edition of the annual AleziRadio Festival of Songs. The competition was held as usual in 16th of May 2006 by the authorities of PyaliRadio (PR). This is the tenth time that Pyalivostok hosted the competition, and the sixth time that the festival was held in the region's capital, Pyalivostokgrad. The 2006 Festival marked Pyalivostokgrad as tied second most hosting together with Basna with six hostings in their city, only behind Metropolitan Zafizamarrah who has hosted thirteen times.

The City Government of Pyalivostokgrad chose a venue on their own without the usual protocol of opening the process to interested venue owners. This is a very unorthodox selection method, where the city government reasoned that "they already have their own choice of venue due to its' location, facilities, and technology suitable to host the festival". The venue selected end up being the Summer Artistic Auditorium or known to the locals as "Mikhaili Arena". The name came from the fact that the Summer Artistic Auditorium is part of a two-building complex, where one is opened and one is closed depending on the weather. For ARFOS, the venue used would be the building open at summers only. The reason for the limited opening time is due to the separate and different technology implemented on each venue. The colloquial name "Mikhaili Arena" was due to the fact that the arena was opened in 1999 by Mayor of Pyalivostokgrad at the time, Mikhaili Rizelyov.

The Summer Artistic Arena (Russian: Летняя художественная аудитория, Letnyaya khudozhestvennaya auditoriya) has a capacity of 35,000 and has an orchestra pit installed. The Arena had been previously used to host the Summer Artistic Festival which were held annually in Pyalivostokgrad since 1989 where the festival hosted summer-themed spectacle of dance and music. Observed from space, the arena would be shaped like a sun with the main auditorium in the center. Before the festival, some upgrades and redesigns were made to the venue, with the most important being the upgrading of the sound system from ARICO Mus.sys 2930-S made in 1995 to a much more modern ARICO Mus.sys 3128 made in 2006, added with borrowed ARICO Mus.sys-mini 83 used for the 2005 festival previously. The result was a sound system met with positive acclaim with some saying that it is the "best sound system used in the festival in the 2000s".

The amount of songs this year returned to the all-time high of 20. The last time that 20 songs competed in the competition is back when Carrelie competed in the 1989 festival. This year, AleziRadio invited the foreign country of Waisnor after the country expressed interest of participation back after the 2005 festival ended. The Alezian government welcomed the invitation calling it "the diplomatic start of the cultural exchange between Waisnor and North Alezia". The regional government of Pyalivostok called the invitation "a very welcome exchange between Russian-speaking areas". The debut of Waisnor also introduced the festival to its' first song sung in Belarussian.

Due to the Waisnorian debut and the requirement for online voting, ARICO worked with the Waisnorian telecommunication provider to provide online voting to the Waisnorian voters which would then be translated to numbers for ARICO to process. And due to Waisnorian and Alezian time differences and the possible difficulty of Waisnorian voters voting in an unsuitable time, a change was required. However, due to the possible protests by Alezians who protested that leniency given to Waisnorians could cause unfairness in the online voting, a compromise was then decided to let both Waisnorian and Alezian voters to start voting at least three days before the festival's live broadcast was on. This was proven successful and helpful for voters that even without any international participants, ARFOS continues to use this method of voting period for future festivals.

Graphical Design

The "main" logo for the 2006 festival

The graphical design for the year's festival was considered a departure by ARFOS fans and graphical observers alike. The team behind the graphical design for the festival decided to ditch the "Alezia Millenium" design language which according to its' leader was considered too "old and overused" for ARFOS. The team designed to move into a more independent design called "Четыре точки" (Four Point in Russian). The design would rely on distorted rectangles that is shaped like a diamond. The diamonds would then stacked and combined together to create a mountainpeak, the river below it, and the night sky above it; representing the nature of Pyalivostok.

The logo is the first time since 1991 that the year of the competition was presented explicitly as part of the logo. Another visible introduction to the festival's logo is the star constellation on top of the "sky"/main portion of the logo. The stars (bar the different-looking star on the center) represent the relative location of each participating region/territory's capital cities.

Pyalivostok is represented with the biggest star, signifying host region. The bigger stars represents other regions of North Alezia (Basna, Tel Hadiv, Bristol, Aramna, Zafizamarrah), the smaller stars represents the territories of North Alezia (Daya Island, Mosin-Nagan, and Northern Pantabang Islands). The final differently shaped star added on the center represented Waisnor as a non-Alezian participant who still is a very integral part of the year's festival constellation.

The 2006 festival is also the first ARFOS ever in its history to introduce a slogan: Гора, Река, Небо, Песня (Gora, Reka, Nebo, Pesnya / Mountain, River, Sky, Song). The slogan ends up also being the first ARFOS common song title, where everyone sung the song together on stage standing as accordingly to their "regional" star in the constellation.

Incidents

"Extended Fall of Zafizamarrah"

Participating Entries and Results

According to the rules of the AleziRadio Festival of Songs, any international participant participating in the festival would be automatically have its' two entries run at number ten and twenty in the running order, and as such Waisnor was immediately put accordingly. Due to its' non-Alezian status, Waisnor couldn't participate in the Independence Award. The last time that this happened is when Carrelie participated in 1989.

  • "*" = the singer won the Independence Award which was held the day before the competition.
  • The song for the Independence Award for the year was "All Hope Was Never Lost" sung by Immada in 1949
