Winning song"Поезд № 39" by The Narianovas

AleziRadio Festival of Songs 2005 is the fourty-eighth edition of the annual AleziRadio Festival of Songs. The competition was held as usual in 16th of May 2005 by the authorities of Radio Zafizamarrah (RZ). This is the sixteenth time that Zafizamarrah hosted the competition, the third time that the competition was hosted by Zafizamarrah outside of the Metropolitan City, and the second time that Oldport-Newport hosted the competition after last time doing so in 1969.

The year's festival was won by the Pyalivostokian women trio called "The Narianovas" consisting of Elsa Nakalyova, Irina Yalgasevich, and Hanna Novonova. The trio's victory brought Pyalivostok their ninth victory, cementing their record as the second best performing region in the festival as of 2005. It is also Pyalivostok's first victory since 1987. They also broke Andi Tenriatta Namian's record in points where the trio earned 443 points compared to Tenriatta's 416 points. Bristol and Mosin-Nagan earned its' fourth second place and fourth third place placements respectively.

The competition was granted to Zafizamarrah after Andi Tenriatta Namian won the competition for her region with the song "ᨕᨒᨙᨊ ᨌᨋᨁ ᨑᨗᨕᨚᨒᨚᨀᨘ", which was the second song sung in Buginese to do so. The initial decision was to host the 2005 festival in Metropolitan Zafizamarrah with potential venues for the competition including The National Stadium, Oxygen Arena, The Zafizamarranian Clam, and Grand Alezian Theatre (joining the 3 medium-sized out of 5 theatres into one). However, the news was received poorly by the Alezian public demanding Radio Zafizamarrah to "introduce their region outside of the capital since they've been there way too many times previously".

Reacting to the backlash, Radio Zafizamarrah instead decided to give the public the right to list three cities in Zafizamarrah that the public ideally wanted to see host the competition. The result of the polling was Radio Zafizamarrah contacting the three cities of Iskandaruddin, Nashriza, and Oldport-Newport to ask about their interest on hosting the festival. However, only Oldport-Newport expressed interest and as such, the rights to the festival went unanimously to Oldport-Newport.

Oldport-Newport is the third biggest city in Zafizamarrah behind the Metropolitan City and Iskandaruddin and is the prime spot for entry into North Alezia by ship due to the city holding the nation's biggest and oldest seaport, being developed by the Buginese and then by the British. The port has given the country a very considerable contribution to it's GDP, with the city also being the prime spot for trade and Alezian exports of electronics such as computers. Other than as a prime trading spot, the city is also known for being one of the most visited cities for beach tourism, being one of Zafizamarrah's coastal cities.

After Oldport-Newport was announced as the festival's host, the city government of Oldport-Newport held a bidding process for venue owners to earn the rights to host the festival in their venue. Initially, after a bidding process, the venue selected was the Seaside Mega AmpiTheatre which was completed recently in time for the festival. However, the venue owner eventually declined the rights due to a renovation that had to be done last minute which couldn't be completed in time for the festival even in the most optimistic scenario. And thus, the venue who was designated as the back-up venue which was the Neutron Science Arena was selected, with its' mega auditorium able to host 10,000 people.

The decision to host the festival in Neutron Science Arena was considered "weird" and "eccentric" at first. Reasons for these sentiment includes the fact that the arena itself was never used for artistic programmes, instead being used for school field trips, scientific events, and meetings. However, the Science Arena has a pretty advanced audio system making it a prime spot for music festivals. The festival itself proved to be successful organization-wise, and thus proved the ability for the Science Arena to host non-scientific events, even though as of 2022, the 2005 ARFOS remained as the only non-scientific event to be hosted in the venue.

The graphic design for the competition mostly stayed similiar to the previous years. The changes being instead of Mosin-Naganese flowers, the graphic used is a five-pointed star. The star itself representing the Alezian star in the Alezian flag which while usually meant to be free to interpretation, most of the Alezian public perceive the star as a symbol of hope and perfection.

Ari Haudani who represented Basna in the 1994 festival and earned 10th place back then represented his region once again in this edition. Dessi Dora also returned representing Pantabang Islands after earning third place last year.

Incidents

The Sinister Six

While the organizational side of the competition was an astounding success, public outcry was visible around the controversy of the fact that 1/3 of the songs selected for the festival have inappropriate content. The Families for Safety (FFS) protested the selection method of regions that picked inappropriate songs for a family show like the AleziRadio Festival of Songs 2005. Songs that were brought into the controversy are Olga Denerez's "Ampere", The Cannon Band's "Explosive", SEKT'EMBERI's "დარეკე ჩემს ნომერზე", The Narianova's "Поезд № 39", Selena Richie's "Captured (Ah!)", and Maria's "Бессонная королева"

Due to this, FFS sued AleziRadio, RA, PR, RRB, RTHY-MN, plus all the artists, composers, lyricists, and parties involved in the making of all six songs. This unprecedented lawsuit is added with FFS suing other parts of media such as MTV Alezia and ARICO. This is considered as the largest lawsuit relating to media in Alezian history and is called FFS vs. The Federation of North Alezia.

The court proceedings have both sides expressing their opinion throughout the issue. FFS demanded that all parties involved remove inappropriate songs from public usage, including in ARFOS. While the defendant party (including the Federation of North Alezia) demanded that FFS respect the freedom of speech and expression in North Alezia. The nation eventually won the proceeding with FFS admitting defeat with one condition, where an age rating must be enforced and ARFOS must have a disclaimer should the songs continue to be "put at this caliber". The resulting product is the Age Rating Board of Alezia (ARBA) and ARFOS being rated for All Ages with Parental Supervision, the first programme to be rated as such.

ARFOS would remain rated for that specific type of range and all songs submitted to AleziRadio now must be adequately "filtered" without changing the meaning of the song. The parties involved in "Sinister Six" also either changed their lyrics entirely or toned down either their lyrics, their performance, or both for the festival, while the original uncensored version remained as physical and online releases.

Public outcry resurfaced after three of the Sinister Six songs reached top five position in the festival with two of them topping the first place and second place of the year's festival. However, the public outcry after the festival remained low compared to the lawsuit that happened previously.

"The Fall of Zafizamarrah"

Zafizamarrah is statistically one of the more successful regions who participated in the AleziRadio Festival of Songs, with sixteen victories, fifteen runner-up placements, and fourteen third places. Even if the region didn't place in the top three, either one or both of the region's songs would end up in the top 5. And such, public expectation were high surrounding Zafizamarrah's hosting of the festival; with initial predictions predicting that both of the region's entries would place in the top 5. However, as the night progressed, both of the entries failed to enter the top 5; the first time since 1964 (where their songs placed 8th and 11th).

According to the public, the most concerning thing is not "Zafizamarrah earning one of its' worst averages"; but "the fact that it happened in Zafizamarrah" which was considered by the Zafizamarranians as "regional embarassment". After the festival concluded, the Alezian Postal Service / Zafizamarrah reported a surge of 200% of letters directed to the office of Radio Zafizamarrah, which reportedly mostly contain angry letters from ARFOS spectators. According to an ARFOSFans article, most of the angry letters call for the radio to act immediately and take the competition seriously again.
