The People's Party (Mespalian Rachvachenpârti, French: Parti populaire) is a centrist, agrarian and conservative political party in Mespalia.
The party was founded in 1878 to represent the poor, almost universally native Mespalian smallholders and tenant farmers. The Party was known for championing the use of Mespalian language over French and supporting the interests of poorer Mespalians over Aininian aristocrats who owned most of the land. As the importance of agriculture in the Mespalian economy, the People's Party has started supporting the interests of all people living in rural areas, not only farmers, against urbanization, centralization of power what they see as foreign values threatening the pristine, Christian countryside. It was also the first party in Mespalia to promote environmental protection.
Today, the People's Party considers itself to be a centrist, christian democratic, patriotic and "country-minded" party that supports decentralization, traditional values, social welfare and personal responsibility. Its strongest base of support is in the rural areas of Mespalia and in some municipalities, the party consistently gets almost 80 percent of the vote in municipal, provincial and national elections.
