AlcoMal is a government-run chain of alcohol stores in Malgrave. It is the only store in the country that is allowed to sell beverages that contain more than 2% ABV. It is regarded as one of the smallest state-owned companies in the country and is closely attached to MalMart

History

Before the establishment of AlcoMal, the sale of alcohol used to be covered by MalMart and various workers cooperatives and independent grocery stores in the country, however, following a review into these practices by the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Social Solidarity it was decided to consolidate the sale of alcohol under a singular state-run monopoly called AlcoMal.

In the 1970s numerous attempts were made to privatise AlcoMal by Prime Minister Adalbert Kaczmarek, however, due to pressure from the the Most Illustrious Glorious Confederation of Proud Malgravean Proletarians (MIGCPMP) and the Cooperative Association of Distillers and Brewers and Fermented Drinks Manufacturers (CADBFDM) this was stopped, a series of reforms were again planned at the end of the decade but they were scrapped following the election of the Progressive Unity Party in the 1980 Malgravean General Election.

AlcoMal has an extremely close relationship with MalMart and often has outlets located near or within their stores. Following the expansion of MalMart in the 2000s AlcoMal saw a similar expansion in stores, although with retained branding, different rules to permit the direct advertisement in the business to make-up for the lack of a monopoly status and improved branding for Malcohol products.

AlcoMal technically serves non-alcoholic beverages and certain food items, however, these are a relatively small part of their operations compared to alcohol sales. It is forbidden from advertising specific products within Malgrave, instead this responsibility is handled by the Cooperative Association of Distillers and Brewers and Fermented Drinks Manufacturers (CADBFDM) and individual companies.

Malcohol

AlcoMal serves a wide-range of brand-name alcohols, however, it also sells its own alcohol under the Malcohol brand which is known for its incredibly simplistic packaging and lack of branding. Prior to 2000 all Malcohol products were developed within Malgrave, however, following the expansion of MalMart into Breheim, a product development team was established in the country with the aim of developing products for the local market and Breheimian migrants back in Malgrave.
