After two decades in government, the Conservative Action Party dissolved the Chamber of Representatives and the Chamber of Supervisors for an election to be held on the 22nd of March, 1980. Nikola Tesla's decision to return to frontline politics and run under the banner of the Progressive Unity Party caused a surge of interest in the election, and a general vibe of optimism flowed through the campaign.

Election Issues

A key issue for the election was the ongoing conflict with the Socialist Republic of Malgrave and disagreements over how to bring a successful conclusion to the civil war. While the Conservative Action Party, Agricultural Coalition and Future Party favoured a military-focused solution to the remaining conflict the other parties favoured a more peaceful solution to the conflict with the Socialist Republic.

With the end of the civil war on the mind, a series of discussions continued on how to facilitate the reintegration of the country with various solutions put forward. The Conservative Action Party supported an aggressive integration using the Territorial Defence Force to maintain order while the Progressive Unity Party supported the establishment of a new civilian agency to coordinate a peaceful integration with the assistance of the Ancestral Study Group.

Campaigns

Conservative Campaign

After two decades in power the Conservative Action Party were largely apathetic and rather convinced that they would lose the election. Still the party campaigned around finishing the military campaign against the Socialist Republic, although, due to the high losses and the rumoured abuses that occured during the collapse of the National Workers' Republic this was not a wholly popular policy with voters.

The Conservative Action Party also called for a continuation of their free market reforms into the new territories, with plans drawn up for a mass privatisation campaign of assets in the Socialist Republic upon the competition of the war, although, this policy recieved some ire from the trade union confederation.

Technology Party

The Technology Party called for an academic conference to be convened on the possibility of a peaceful resolution to the conflict with the Socialist Republic of Malgrave, with an eye of ending the conflict without further violence.

Elsewhere the Technology Party called for a greater emergence of technocratic governance, with the party blaming the recent corruption scandals on an abandonment of experts and weakened measures against nepotism.

Progressive Campaign

The Progressive Unity Party was greatly spurred by the return of Nikola Tesla to frontline politics, with a lot of early material focusing on what his return could mean for the country. Additionally, the Progressive Unity Party focused on the high-cost and aggression of the military campaign against the National Workers' Republics and played into thoughts of the time that such an incident would directly harm the ongoing national effort to achieve ascension.

The Progressive Unity Party promised that they would achieve peace with the Socialist Republic within the next five years without any large-scale loss of life, so that the average citizen can return to exploring peaceful persuits that the ancestors would approve of instead of being forced to fight other Malgraveans. It was a highly popular campaign, and many pollsters predicted that the PUP would win.

Green Party

The Green Party also advocated for a peaceful conclusion to the ongoing civil war, although, they also went further and called for a general arms reduction upon the conclusion of a peace agreement and the end of conscription within the country.

Greens called for more resources to be put into environmental protections, and for a review to be conducted into the trade unions to increase their independence from the government.
