The 1994 Karlino Central Station Bombing was a major terrorist attack carried out in the United Kingdom of Malgrave. It was the deadliest bombing to take place in Malgrave until the 2009 Epping Metro Bombing and had a decisive impact on Malgravean security procedures that are still visible today. As Prime Minister Alicja Kowalska was killed during the blast, the attack also resulted in the 1994 Malgravean Emergency General Election and is noted for worsening the economic crisis that typified the Lost Decade.

The Bombing

In the 80's MalTra began to move away from using hub railways, as the transport company began to transition to more integrated railway networks which fed regional railways directly into the metro network. As a result existing hubs such as the one like Karlino were scheduled for modernisation work, a process which involved their destruction and replacement with a structure befitting the work expected to be carried out by the new railway network.

At this time, the Ancestral Study Group was working to host a charity concert to fund research into trying to find a cure for Malgravean Immunodeficiency Disorder with the first concert held in Epping followed by concerts in Pakosc, Omsk and Rensk in 1990, 1991, 1992 and 1993. In 1994 it was decided to host a concert in Karlino, as such a festival would also act as a closing ceremony for the station which was scheduled for demolition in the next few months.

In 1993 the Patriotic Front had attempted to detonate an explosive device in the festival hosted in Rensk, however, their plan had failed due to the fact that the People's Legislative Chamber in Rensk had been designed to withstand bombardment and rather overengineered due to a bet made by Monika Chmiel.

It was quickly decided to perform another attempt in Karlino, although, this time the Patriotic Front infiltrated the location disguised as MalCon workers and were able to plant explosives in strategic locations. As a result, the explosive detonations were able to cause massive damage to the structure which partially collapsed and led to many Malgraveans losing their lives.

Aftermath

Prime Minister Alicja Kowalska was rescued from the rubble a few moments after the initial explosion, however the wounds she suffered during the blast combined with the impact of Malgravean Immunodeficiency Disorder resulted in her untimely death.

Sakura Saito was also caught in the bombing and the trauma she suffered in this incident impacted her decision to stop performing for a few years to focus on her song-writing. Claudia Donovan was also in Karlino at that day and her experience with the incident and subsequent research led to her developing a version of the MalTec Ascension for use by the security services and military which includes the ability to detect explosives and cross-match individuals against the national database alongside other enhancements.
