Tasorel Film Awards
VenueThe Almeida Theater in Gatovita, Kingsland, Vitosium
CountryVitosium
First awarded1 October 1934; 90 years ago (1934-10-01)

The Tasorel Film Awards, popularly known as the Tasorels, are awards for artistic and technical merit in the film industry. They are regarded as one of the most significant and prestigious awards in the entertainment industry. The awards are a recognition of excellence in cinematic achievements, although, unlike The Pine Awards, only Vitosian films are eligible.

Etymology

The name of the awards comes from Edward Lissoa, who directed the very first film in the country. For the first ten years of his career, he had gone by the stage name, Barry Tasorel, excluding his very first movie.

History

In 1934 J. Fernando Lissoa, who was an influential movie producer and actor, as well as the son of the legendary Edward Lissoa, organized a presentation in the Almeida Theater with an audience of 480 people. The ceremony, which handed out 8 statuettes, would last a mere 20 minutes, although this would change starting in the second year. Originally called The Vitosium Film Awards, the name would change two years later following the passing of Edward Lissoa. J. Fernando Lissoa wanted to honour his father but felt like using their last name would come across as narcissistic and opted to use his father's stage name instead.
