Elections in Gurkaniyan are not considered to be free and fair, as only married Muslim men over the age of 40 ("electors") are fully enfranchised. The votes of a Muslim woman over the age of 40 or a Muslim man under the age of 40 are counted for 1/2 of that of an elector. Non-Muslims, meanwhile, vote in a separate process for the single "minorities" seat. This system led to the Gurkani Clerical Association winning a lopsided victory, as its support is concentrated among electors.
