It is the largest species of grouper fish, ranging from 2-5 meters in length and can weigh over 150 kilograms. The name Bloodscale comes from the translation of the Kjerso name geulden-borgul, meaning blood fish. It was given because of the dark red color of it's scales.

Habitat

Bloodscale Groupers are found only along the coasts and in the rivers of Yogania, primarily near Kjerso. It is usually found in shallow waters near algae deposits. It can survive temperatures of up to -25C.

Yoganian Bloodscale Groupers are the largest species of grouper fish. They commonly reach 2 to 5 meters in length and over 100 kilograms in weight. The largest Bloodscale Grouper found was 5,80 meters in height and weighed 298 kilograms.

Diet

Bloodscale groupers are carnivorous. They eat a diet that includes various types of fish, crustaceans, and squid.

Fishing

Bloodscale Groupers are an important commercial fish. According to the Yoganian National Statistics Institute (YSI) There were about 11,000 tons of Bloodscale Groupers fished for commercial purposes in 2022. The bulk of the fish are sold to restaurants and grocery store companies.
