The Besmenian Libertarian Party (Besmenian: Besmenische Libertäre Partei, BELP) is a libertarian political party in Besmenia founded in November 1964.
The BELP was founded in November 1964 as a moderate party with libertarian and national liberal positions by former LBB politicians. After several internal power struggles, more moderate leaders left the party, so that the party developed significantly to the right during the leadership of Udo Kühbacher from 1964 until his death in 1988 and adopted right-wing to far-right positions.
The party had its greatest political significance in the late 1960s to the mid-1970s, when it was represented in the Federal Chamber. The BELP was also initially represented in several state parliaments from the late 1960s to the early 1980s and even participated in the state government in some federal states, such as in Laitstadt from 1974 to 1979 or Sedakania from 1972 to 1977. After the BELP was only able to achieve success at the municipal level from the early 1980s to the early 2010s, the party regained political importance in the mid-2010s and managed to re-enter the Federal Chamber in 2016 after 40 year and in some state parliaments. During this time, the BELP benefited primarily from the then party crisis of the National Besmenian Party. In the early 2020s, the party lost its political importance again and withdrew from the Federal Chamber in 2020, as well as from almost all state parliaments at that time.
The current stronghold of the BELP is Maurenmark, where the party has been represented intermittently since its re-election in 2014.
