History
DäTV has its orgin way back in 1928 when Därkmänsije Rëdyo was founded as the national radio station for Darkmania, following the National Radio Act of 1926. At first it was decided that the radio was to air advertisments, but it was dropped from 1938 following a restructure of the company aswell as response to conserns over that advertisments might sneek in to oficcial programs.
In 1953 the National Television Act came to force that mandated the creation of a national television service that later became DaTV. The first tv-broadcast was held in 1955 and was just a 10 minute long fotage of a clock ticking. Full TV service started on 4th May 1958.
The channel was renamed to the current name of Darkmänsijeä TeleVïsan in 1961 as part of a re-orginizing efford that also made DäTV indipendent from DaRË.
In 1966 it was decided that DäTV will broadcast their programs in colour. The first colourbroadcast came in 1968 during the popular talkshow "Weekend with Rälman" during which then-president Gärdon Tälmman and Trÿor Rälman was both in air. Fulltime colourbrodcast stared in 1971.
Advertising begain in 1986.
DäTV went with the current spelling of "DäTV", replacing "DaTV in 2023 as part of standardiasion.
Financing
72,3% of DaTV's funding in 2017 comes from a mandatory annual payable license by anyone who owns or uses a TV or device capable of receiving TV broadcasts. The remainder comes from commercial activities such as programme and DVD sales, spin-off products and certain types of sponsorship. DaTV's license income in 2012 was around 10 billion danks. In the autumn of 2017, the government of Darkmania announced that it planned to change the way DaTV is financed by removing the license in favour of a 0,5% tax on television starting in 2018. As of 2018, the tax has brought in five and half a billion danks toward the channel in the year alone.
