Overview
Alexandra Margaret Emery Woodward is a British politician and civil servant currently serving as Prime Minister of the New United Kingdom. She won the January 2025 Election for the premiership with 9 votes to her opponent, Hector Iefan Drivens' 7. She also secured the largest number of votes (13) for Member of Parliament in her constituency of Southampton-Itchen. Her Deputy Prime Minister is Klaus Mikaelson. She is a member of the Sinn Féin party.
Political Career
She was appointed His Royal Majesty's Private Secretary on October 31, 2024 by HRM King James I, and was appointed Secretary of State for Culture and Inclusion on December 20, 2024 by Nadhim Zane. She previously ran for Mayor of London in December 2024, finishing last out of three candidates. She has since been elected to the post of Prime Minister.
Political Affiliation
Alex Woodward’s political journey has been greatly altered a period of significant realignment in British politics. Initially a member of the Labour Party, she was affiliated with them from November 2 until their dissolution on December 9, 2024. Following the collapse of Labour, Woodward joined Sinn Féin on December 10, coinciding with the party's formal establishment in NUK. Her move to Sinn Féin marked a shift toward advocating for bold reforms and a renewed focus on social justice, aligning with Sinn Féin's progressive platform. Since then, Woodward has become a key figure in Sinn Féin's efforts to reshape NUK's political landscape, running for mayor with the vision of a transformative, community-focused leadership. She was appointed on December 29 by Party Leader, Klaus Mikaelson, to the position of Chairwoman of the Sinn Féin Party, further strengthening her connection to it.
Upbringing and Early Life
Upbringing
Alexandra was born on September 4, 2004, in Southampton, England, to James Woodward and an unknown mother. She was born after her parents immigrated from Saint Osmund. Growing up in a modest but close-knit household, Alexandra’s early years were shaped by her father's deep involvement in local politics and public service. James Woodward, a dedicated Roman Catholic and community leader, instilled in Alexandra a strong sense of duty, compassion, and faith. Though her mother’s identity remains a mystery, Alexandra has often remarked that her father played the role of both parents in her life, offering guidance and support that shaped her into the leader she is today.
Academic Career
Alexandra attended St. Mary’s High School in Southampton, where she excelled academically and demonstrated an early knack for leadership, serving as head girl in her final year. Despite her achievements, she chose not to pursue higher education, a decision she attributes to her desire to dive directly into public service. At the age of 18, she joined the Southampton City Council as a public service intern, working on community outreach programs aimed at reducing youth unemployment and increasing access to education. Her efforts in this role earned her recognition as a rising star in local governance, setting the stage for her eventual entry into national politics.
Leisure Time
Outside of her academic and early professional life, Alexandra was known for her passion for music and literature. As a teenager, she often volunteered at local libraries, organizing reading programs for underprivileged children. These formative experiences deepened her belief in the power of education and community support, values that would later become central to her political platform. She credits her time spent among Southampton’s diverse communities as the foundation of her commitment to inclusivity and social reform.
Personal Life and Beliefs
Personal Overview
Alexandra Woodward currently resides at 10 Downing Street, where she lives alone with her two cats. But she calls Southampton home. Unmarried and without children, Alexandra embraces her Christian faith, a tradition passed down from her father, James, whose beliefs strongly influenced her upbringing, however she has since left his church, the Roman Catholic Church and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She values the quiet companionship of her pets amongst the hustle and bustle of life her position provides, and the sense of community her faith provides, often participating in activities at the London Temple. She is the first Mormon Prime Minister of the NUK.
Presumed Death of Her Father
Unfortunately, on 28th December 2024, after attending a charity event at Oxford, her father (James Woodward)'s driver reportedly lost control of the car at the Winterbrook bridge, and as a result drove off the bridge into the River Thames. James Woodward's body was not found, and the left side rear door was also missing from the car. After days of searching, on 31st December 2024, Thames Valley Police officially declared the Chancellor to have been "presumed dead".
Political and Personal Alliances
Political Alliances
Alexandra has secured close political ties with Nadhim Zane and Klaus Mikaelson through their shared party, but also with Francis Loyse, who she appointed to be her Chancellor. And with Jasper Harrison.
Personal Alliances
Being a member of the House of Woodward she has secured a personal alliance with members of the House of Devecz, namely Francis Loyse and Adram Devecz.
Electoral Campaigns
January 2025 NUK Prime Ministerial Election Campaign
Alexandra Woodward secured her position as Prime Minister following a closely contested election in January 2025, marking a turning point in parliamentary leadership. The election saw Woodward clinching a narrow victory with 9 votes, surpassing Hector Iefan Drivens' 7 votes. The parliamentary breakdown further underscored the competitiveness, with Woodward garnering 13 votes overall, closely trailed by Klaus and John with 11 votes each, while Pytor Dabrowski and Francis Loyse followed with 9 and 8 votes respectively, and Faris Von Demonicus with 4. Campaign materials, such as the slogan "Want a break from the status quo," emphasised her call for change and reform, resonating with her supporters. Her victory speech highlighted unity and forward momentum, setting the tone for her tenure as a leader poised to reshape the nation’s political landscape.
December 2024 London Mayoral Election Campaign
Alex Woodward’s mayoral campaign for London, running as the Sinn Féin candidate, was a bold bid for change amidst a crowded race. Despite her energetic and impassioned campaign, featuring slogans like "Vote for Change. Vote SF." and "You wouldn't put off replacing a broken cell phone. So, why put off replacing a broken London?", she found herself in third place, securing only 4 out of 16 votes. While her message of transformation and a new vision for the city resonated with some, the competition from Lord Sim of the Liberal Progressives Party and Francis Loyse of the Tories proved too strong. Despite this, Woodward's campaign was a testament to the appetite for change in the city, even if the vote tally did not reflect it.
