While they couldn't hold up to western designs, Taoist ships from the 14th-17th centuries are widely considered to be very well designed and well built for their time; this is often thought to be because of the concept of "Kami no Umi" or "Divine Sea" which suggests that, if one wants to sail on the seas they should take care to use a vessel of quality and art; it is often thought that this mindset is what has historically inspired a concept of quality over quantity in the previous Taoist Navies.

The Imperial Taoist Navy, ITN, commonly referred to as the Taoist Navy, is the worldwide maritime warfare branch of the Empire of the Tao Armed Forces, tasked with naval warfare, global power projection, and assisting in overseas and domestic humanitarian efforts for the Empire of the Tao. It is the only Navy of the Empire of the Tao, though it is not the only branch which deals with naval warfare, as the Empire of the Tao Coast Guard is a branch which also operates capital ships (though small ones), but focuses more on naval defense, and humanitarian/rescue efforts than the ITN which focuses more on offensive power, and power projection.

History

Early history

While the ITN was established in only 2019, the Tao has one of the oldest cultures in Sunalaya and has a rich naval history.

After achieving liberation through the War of Taoist Independence, the Tao's first constitution established it as a republic, becoming the Republic of the Tao; which had the Republic of the Tao Navy (RTN) as its primary naval force. In 1927, however, Emperor Takehiko passed away, and his son, Emperor Shou ascended to the throne and began implementing his fascist policies in the government, leading to the establishment of the Empire of the Tao and the Republic of the Tao Navy being reformed into the Imperial Taoist Navy (ITN). Having sided with the Core Powers in World War II, the Empire of the Tao unconditionally surrendered to the Dronden Pact and on February 1, 1948, the Empire was officially dismantled, along with the Imperial Taoist Navy.

1948-2019 (USTN)

Despite the fact that some within the Dronden Pact wanted to see the Tao without an established military and be run by a foreign power. Some of the occupiers of the Tao inside the Droden pact, namely Aznazia, held a firm position against this, however. Ultimately with the help of Aznazia and Rhodevus, the United States of the Tao (UST) was created, along with it come the United States of the Tao Navy.

On August 7, 2017, the Taoist Armed Forces, under the nationalist government, were wanting to test a ship-launched EMP device. The USTN offered to mount the device to the TNS Diketa for testing. The device was tested just 400 miles off the coast of Sunrisia, who had been heavily protesting the actions of the Nationalist government in the Tao at the time. Testing proved to be "beyond satisfactory" as the device was estimated to be capable of wiping out electronics within a 20mile radius. The EMP testing was a major controversial event that still sparks discussion to this day.

On January 18, 2017, the USTN sent 2 squadrons towards Capsland at threat level 5, to be prepared to render assistance to Capsland should war break out, but they were recalled 19 days later by new Prime Chancellor, Sora Miroyu.

Recent history

On May 16, 2019, the UST, along with the USTN was dissolved by Sora Miroyu, and was immediately replaced with the Empire of the Tao, along with the Imperial Taoist Navy.

Equipment

Ships

All vessels in the United States of the Tao Navy are given a name designation, this is always followed by a prefix; TNS (Taoist Navy Ship) for warfare vessels, and TS (Taoist Ship) for various other auxiliary vessels, even some non-navy related ships use this prefix. Almost all USTN vessels also have a hull designation, such as DDV for destroyers or HCV for helicopter carriers, followed by a number.

The USTN has a total of 132 ships, 22 submarines, 1 training submarine, 6 helicopter carriers, 2 amphibious assault ships, 8 cruisers, 28 destroyers, 18 corvettes, 20 mine sweepers, 4 recon & surveillance ships, 4 training ships, 6 supply ships, and 1 experimental ship.
