The class was introduced in 2273 as part of the Californian Empire government's Sea Sentinel nuclear weapons program. The class includes twelve boats: Vanguard, Vengeance, Victory, Viking, Vaunted, Vindictive, Volturnus, Venerator, Vixen, Viperine, Venomous and Venus. They were built at Long Beach by United Naval Ship Yards between 2269 and 2280.
