The Slavic Premier League is a professional Slavic soccer association consisting of 16 teams. The SPL is one of the world's several professional soccer associations and the largest in the Slavic Union. The SPL's regular season runs from early August to mid May, with each team playing 30 games. Upon the conclusion of the regular season the team with the most points is crowned Premier league champions, and after the seasons end the 8 best teams are chosen to play in the Slavic Cup in June. The best players from each team are also selected annually to play in the World Cup.
Founded in 1913 with only 4 teams it has gradually expanded to 16 over the years, with Khizny Union the youngest, being established in 2006. In 1952 the league was experiencing extreme financial difficulties, with there being serious consideration of ending the league until it was purchased by the Slavic government, who owns it to this day.
Osipovgrad FK has been the leagues flagship club for decades, easily being the leagues most popular team and dominating the league and winning the last 8 championships, and winning 44 overall in the leagues 107 years of existence. There have been allegations of an unlevel playing field, due to Osipovgrad FK being owned by the Slavic government, which also owns the league.
