AleziRadio Festival of Songs 1966 is the ninth edition of the annual AleziRadio Festival of Songs. It was held on 16th of May 1966, which was held and organized by Radio Zafizamarrah after Rina Yublaqani's victory last year. This is the second time that the region has hosted the competition in its territory, after doing so previously in 1963. The competition was won by Makarina Hisyamuraddin with the song "حقيقة" representing Zafizamarrah. This was the first time that a region has won twice in a row, and where Zafizamarrah joins Pyalivostok for the record of most victories by count.
Initially, the six regions of South Alezia was supposed to debut in the competition to promote friendship between the two divided nations. However, South Alezia withdrew from the competition saying that the standards of the competition is too low for them, and due to the fact that the relationship between the two countries aren't as amorous as the era of the present. The relationship between the two countries back then was strained so much that a war was speculated to break out between the two at that time, however, this never happened.
However, even with South Alezia's withdrawal, two more regions debuted in the competition, which are Mosin-Nagan and Pantabang Islands (which was officially still divided between North and South Alezia back then, but was allowed to participate in both countries' events), officially bringing the total number of entries to 16.
This year, Tel Hadivian singer Sofia Yeshiru'an and Chitarena Chikonyova returned representing their region again after participating last year. Dnerash Makol also returned after earning second place after a tight tiebreaker round in 1964
Incidentally, Chitarena Chikonyova's song called "Теперь я чувствую себя виноватым больше, чем когда-либо" broke the record for being the song with the longest title, consisting of 34 characters excluding spaces.
Incidents
Daya Island Entry
Daya Island once again became a focus point of this year's competition due to their protest about them being left out on being invited to the competition. They protested that if regions as small as Mosin-Nagan and Pantabang Islands are allowed to represent themselves separate from their guarantor regions (Mosin-Nagan under Tel Hadivian jurisdiction, Pantabang Islands under Zafizamarranian jurisdiction), then a big island such as Daya Island should be allowed to represent themselves separate from Pyalivostok.
AleziRadio reasoned that Daya Island is still too dependant on Pyalivostok and the infrastructure and talent of the island is still too minimal to be considered, as AleziRadio rules that each region cannot send only one singer (that sings all the entries from that region) or one song to the competition.
However, Daya Island proved itself to be able to be self-sufficient in talent and everything else away from Pyalivostok that AleziRadio finally ratified and approved Daya Island's admission to the ARFOS family the year after.
Possible South Alezian Secret Entry
Due to an agreement between North and South Alezia being at place at that time, it was agreed that South Alezians can participate in North Alezian events and vice versa. However, due to South Alezia withdrawing from the competition entirely and tensing relations, AleziRadio can't accept the South Alezian entries. However, one entry from the Pantabang Islands was sung in Dutch and due to the fact that Maria Leeuwarden who is the singer of the entry is South Alezian, sparked controversy due to the fact that they rather sneak in their entry instead of openly participating themselves.
However, AleziRadio stated that the Pantabang Islands won't be disqualified, as Dutch was (and still is) technically one of the official languages of the Pantabang Islands. And additionally, a few weeks later, AleziRadio pulled the ban of South Alezians from the competition, allowing them to go to the North and represent Pantabang Islands instead. However, the rules suggest that South Alezians who participate must ONLY come from and ONLY represent Pantabang Islands.
Pariticipating Entries and Results
Due to the addition of four songs where two debuting regions of Pantabang Islands and Mosin Nagan, the running order which was decided by previous rankings only applies to the original six regions while the two new debutantes earned the last four spots where they're put alternatively.
