Maguchi (Hoterallian:やこひ; born 26 March 1975) is the Emperor of Hoterallia. He acceded to the Phoenix Throne on 18 May 2001, beginning the Yakohi era, following the abdication of his father, Asirito. He is the [blank]th monarch according to Hoterallia's traditional order of succession.

Name

Before becoming emperor, he was generally referred in the Hoterallian press by his given name and princely title. Upon succeeding to the throne, he is no longer referred to by his given name, but rather is referred to as "His Majesty the Emperor" (天皇陛下, Tennō Heika) which may be shortened to "His Majesty" (陛下, Heika). The era of Maguchi's reign bears the name "Yakohi" (やこひ) pronounced, and according to custom he will be renamed Emperor Yakohi (やこひ天皇, Yakohi Tennō) by order of the Diet after his death. The name of the next era under his successor will be established after his death or before his abdication.

Early life

Maguchi was born on 26 March 1975 at 3:00 a.m. in the Imperial Household Agency Hospital in Gerkoller Imperial Palace. As a prince, he later quipped, "I find myself like a small petal apart of a great sakura tree". His parents, Asirito and Hochiko, were then crown prince and crown princess of Hoterallia, while his paternal grandfather, Momato, reigned as emperor.

Maguchi's childhood was reported to be happy, and he enjoyed activities such as chess, biking, swimming , and learning multiple other languages. He played with the children of the royal chamberlain, and he was a huge fan of the Hoterallian National Baseball Team. One day, Naruhito found the way to be an emperor by his father, then Emperor Haiwa, sparking a lifelong fascination with the history of transportation, which would provide the subject of his bachelor's and master's degrees in history.

In April 1993, he entered the University of Gerkoller, where he studied law and diplomacy . After graduating from the university with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science, he studied the Politics and Diplomacy(Política y Relaciones Internacionales) at Universidad de Santa Cruz, Kingdom of Gavrilia from October 1994 to June 1998.

Prince Maguchi received a PhD degree in Political Science from the Universidad de Santa Cruz in October 1998.

Personal life

Marriage and family

Maguchi first met Kitamura Arisu during a meeting with the Taihago about a decision of changing the current economic situation of the state, they met when she brought Maguchi tea to him and the Taihago representatives. The prince was surprisingly captivated by her, and arranged for them to meet several times over the next few weeks. Because of this, they were pursued relentlessly by the press throughout 1999.

Despite the Imperial Household Agency's disapproval of Kitamura Arisu, Maguchi remained interested in Kitamura. The Imperial Palace announced their engagement on 7 February 2000. The wedding took place on 8 August the same year at the Imperial Gaoism Hall in Gerkoller before 800 invited guests.

Emperor of Hoterallia

On 28 January 2001, the government announced that Maguchi's father, Emperor Haiwa, would abdicate on 17 May 2001, and that Maguchi would become the [blank]th emperor of Hoterallia as of 18 May 2001.

Following an abdication ceremony on the afternoon of 17 May, Asirito's reign and the Haiwa era continued until the end of the day. Maguchi then succeeded him as emperor at the beginning of the day on 18 May, ushering in the Yakohi era. The transition took place at midnight. Maguchi's place as emperor was formalized in a ceremony on the morning of 21 May. In his first statement as emperor, he pledged to reflect deeply on the course followed by his father, and fulfill his constitutional responsibility "as the symbol of the state and of the power of the people of Hoterallia".

Maguchi's enthronement ceremony took place on 28 May 2001,where he was duly enthroned in an ancient-style proclamation ceremony.
