The SSV 001-class submarine is a class of attack submarines constructed for the United States of the Tao Navy (USTN) Imperial Taoist Navy (ITN). It is one of two attack submarine classes in active service with the ITN. It is a part of the "next-gen" fleet plan created in 1983.

Development

In 1983 the USTN had started working on what is now known as the "next-gen" fleet project. By 1985 the project would be completed, and ready to be implemented. One of the areas the plan had addressed was submarine warfare. It was determined that the USTN's submarine force at that time was "Far below necessary requirements." and it was decided that a total of 20 completely new submarines, split into two classes would fulfill the Navy's requirement for a submarine force. While the idea of nuclear attack submarines was brought up during the design process, it was ultimately decided that the USTN would wait to make a decision on such vessels until the new submarine fleet would be under construction. The nuclear submarine concept would eventually culminate in the form of the SSV 021-class submarine.

The SSV 001 class submarines are equipped with 6 533mm torpedo tubes, as well as an unknown anti-ship missile system.

These vessels are powered by 2 Yotota Heavy Industries diesel engines as well as 2 Mokita electric motors. These give the SSV 001 class the capability to achieve speeds of up to 20 knots when submerged.
