The Republican Guard (Latin: Cohortēs Reipublicae), officially the Bureau of the Guards of the Republic (Latin: Officium Cohortēs Reipublicae), is the gendarmerie of the Workers' Federation of Tyreseia. Formed by strongman Azmelqart Sidduni as a personal secret police force, it quickly morphed after his death into a more judicial force. Today, it performs numerous duties within the country, including domestic intelligence and counterintelligence, crowd control, terrorism response, airport and border security, white-collar crime, and numerous other responsibilities. In addition, the Guard will often be contracted by rural or depopulated areas to serve the function of a local constabulary in exchange for a stipend. While legally an arm of the Workers' Navy of Tyreseia, it is in effect a civilian agency, with most oversight given by the civilian Workers' Commissariat of Justice and Public Safety. Its Intelligence Bureau is the premier civil intelligence agency in the country, and frequently cooperates with both the Office of Naval Intelligence and its intelligence counterparts in neighboring Talahara.
