Calahan County is a county in the state of West Monroe. As of the 2020 census, its population was 340,837. The county seat is Holstein. Calahan County is included in the Rhone metropolitan statistical area.

Geography

According to the Ibican Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,176 sq mi (3,050 km2), of which 18 sq mi (47 km2) (1.5%) are covered by water.

Travis Bayou flows through the western portion of the county. The highest point in Calahan County is "Montgomery Hill", the roof of a salt dome in the central area of the county.

Police services

The headquarters of the Calahan County Sheriff's Office, which serves unincorporated areas and supplements police forces of incorporated areas, is within the city of Holstein. All three municipalities in the county operate their own police departments.

Calahan County also has a constable for each of its six precincts and deputies assigned to each.

Fire services

Incorporated cities of Holstein and Rockville operate their own fire departments staffed by a combination of paid and volunteer members. Chilton is served by Calahan County Emergency Service District # 1. All three departments cover territory outside their respective city limits.
