Brantley is the second-most populous city of both Osynstry and its sovereign state, Esthursia. Brantley, home to nearly 15 million Esthurs, is the second megacity of Esthursia, alongside its capital Weskerby. Brantley, at first home to the Asthonic tribes of the early 1st millennium, became a melting pot for Asthonic, Osynstric and Cumbric cultures - particularly the former two - giving it a reputation for diversity and allowing it considerable influence over the development of Esthursian culture. During the industrial period, it grew remarkably; home to 20th century Forethane George Asmont, it became home to the mid-20th century "Esthursian Miracle" in a period of global instability and warfare, growing from a population of 6 million in 1910 to 12 million in 1960. After stagnating somewhat in the 1960s and 1970s, it has since recovered significantly, and has its own independent financial and trading hubs separate from Weskerby. Both Brantley and Weskerby are Esthursia's key cities, and both class as megacities.

Brantley has long been an influential hub for Esthursian trade and politics, however its increasing connectivity with other Northern Belt cities particularly and its growing relative size within Esthursia has allowed the city to exert increasing weight over national dialects, culture and politics. Home to the Lorestead of Sutton, and Longstreet - a district renowned for its automotives production - the city also has a dominant share of high-tech industry and is home to one of the top research universities of Esthursia. Thanks to its relatively cold and wet winters, and its high altitude, it receives significant snowfall in the winter months especially; earning it the nickname "the White City".
